Opened in 2004, Beechwood College is a specialist day and residential service for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 with SEN/ALN needs and/or a formal diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition.
Based upon the principles of TEACCH, PECS and Makaton, the College's goal is to provide unique learning opportunities and experiences for each individual, regardless of ability, to prepare them for later life. The integrated approach to learning sees residential and clinical teams partnering with education specialists to create individualised education programmes for each student that are delivered in a 24-hour learning environment.
It is a tribute to the hard work of our students and the efforts of the Beechwood College team that students enjoy success and accreditation in a wide area of skills, including achieving BTEC, ASDAN, and Essential Skill Wales qualifications and attaining work experience placements.
The curriculum has been developed in conjunction with the students to ensure that subjects are engaging and relevant; recent additions have included subjects as diverse as engineering, history and hair & beauty.
Beechwood College is situated in Sully, South Wales, adjoining green fields, and overlooking the Bristol Channel. The shops and social facilities of Barry are only a few minutes' drive away, and the campus is surrounded by local beaches and natural beauty spots that students love to explore.
Beechwood College is part of Iris Care Group. Employing more than 1700 staff including extensive clinical teams, Iris Care Group is a provider of tailored care solutions for adults over the age of 18 who have a range of complex mental health, personality disorder and physical health needs.
