Holiday accommodation that offers self-catering breaks for groups of people with extra needs...
The Skipton area of Yorkshire has recently been voted as the best place to live in the UK. Not everyone is lucky enough to live here but many people visit on a regular basis. The Beamsley Project is an ideal base for you to explore the Yorkshire Dales, relax or enjoy group activities.
We have been welcoming groups of people with extra needs since 1996 and continue to improve our services. If you need space we have it. Housed in a converted chapel we provide first class facilities so that you can enjoy your stay.
In the main centre there are six ground floor bedrooms and two ensuite rooms on the first floor accessed by a lift. In total we can sleep 24 people in the centre with a further 6 in the adjoining cottage. Our bedrooms have single beds not bunks and the costs include bed linen. There are excellent social facilities with a large first floor hall with TV, table tennis and pool table and a cosy ground floor lounge with smart TV and calming bubble tower. There is WIFI in many parts of the building.
There are ample showers and toilets and a bathroom with an adult nursing table and ceiling hoist. We have a range of special equipment including mobile hoists, commodes, shower chairs and special cutlery. You will have sole use of the Centre, although there may be a group in the nearby Cottage, as we do not take multiple bookings. This ensures your safety and peace of mind. You are welcome to discuss your needs with our friendly staff before booking or why not visit us to plan your visit?
Our catering style kitchen and adjacent dining room are ideal for group meals or for independence training exercises. The hobs and sinks are all height adjustable and there are fridges, freezers, water boiler, micro wave, toasters, filter coffee machine and dishwasher. If you prefer to have your meals made, no problem, as we have excellent outside caterers who will tailor make a package to suit your needs. They can provide anything from one meal to all meals. If you enjoy the outside life you can make use of our BBQ.
Beamsley helps you to enjoy your stay but we know that sometimes there are chores too. So, we provide washing machines and tumble driers to help with these tasks.
From the grounds there are extensive views to Beamsley Beacon and into the Dales. The gardens are safe and relaxing with wheel chair access and space to play. There is a large field for games and space to chill.
We are easy to find being on the side of the A59 Skipton to Harrogate road and parking is plentiful and safe. The area is stunning with lots to do, from the steam railway about 5 minutes away to canal boat trips in nearby Skipton or farm visits to Thornton Hall Farm Country Park or Hesketh Farm Park. Beamsley Project is on the Bolton Abbey Estate and there are great accessible river side walks, forest trails and several cafes all within a few minutes of your base. The Yorkshire Dales makes a great and memorable holiday and provides excellent opportunities to make the National Curriculum live for everyone.
The coast is also easy to reach either to the west with Blackpool, St. Anne’s and Southport within an hour’s drive. Eastwards you are soon in Harrogate and York and Scarborough & Whitby make exciting day visits. If you prefer the sophistication of city life Leeds and Bradford provide shops, theatres, museums, and a wide variety of eating and drinking places. The National Railway Museum in York and the Royal Armouries in Leeds make fascinating free visits. Our staff can help with your planning to make a memorable and exciting holiday or group training session.
Northcott Special School in Hull has organised annual residentials to Beamsley for many years, including one year with an OFSTED inspector in tow. Other groups have included outdoor pursuits groups, craft & drama groups, canoeing, hand cycling, independence training… you name it, the facilities at Beamsley are flexible and welcoming for many types of activities. Our staff are ready to provide advice and take your booking. We are open all year round because there is always lots to do.
